RIO DE JANEIRO — A man who was caught on video stealing groceries from a bungalower has died in Costa Rico.
The incident occurred last Wednesday night, police said in a statement.
A passerby called police after noticing a man in a white coat and white shirt entering a home in the resort city of Costa Rica.
A short time later, police officers were called to the scene.
The man was identified as Roberto Martinez, 43, according to Costa Rican police.
He died at the scene, police told the Associated Press.
Authorities said they would like to speak with the man’s wife, who was in the home at the time of the incident.
The Costa Rican newspaper El Universal said police were investigating whether Martinez used a cellphone during the theft.
Authorities have not released any details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the nature of the stolen goods.
